'Bad MAC' error
Clear a Bad MAC message and get back to taking payments.
It's a security mismatch
A Bad MAC means the secure 'handshake' between your terminal and the bank didn't match. It's almost always cleared with a restart and check-in.
Restart and let it log on
Power-cycle the terminal. As it starts up it logs on to the acquirer again and rebuilds the secure session.
Check your connection
A patchy connection mid-transaction can trigger Bad MAC. Make sure your broadband or signal is stable (see our connection guides).
Still showing?
If a restart doesn't fix it, the security keys may need re-loading. Give us a ring and we'll handle it.
